Steelers Suffer a Disappointing Loss Against Giants

The Pittsburgh Steelers came up short against the New York football Giants in a 21-14 loss at Heinz Field late Sunday afternoon.  The Giants’ defense was just too much for the Steelers as they pressured Ben Roethlisberger all day, forcing him to throw four interceptions and being sacked five times.  Many thought this game could be a Super Bowl preview, but it is apparent that the Steelers will have to improve if they want to make it to the big game in February.

Much of game was a defensive struggle between the two teams.  But it was the Giants who stepped up and scored 12 unanswered points in the 4th quarter that propelled them to victory over the Steelers.  After a bad snap on a punt caused the Steelers to take a safety, it was Eli Manning hooking up with Kevin Boss for a touchdown pass that would end up being the game winning score.  Manning finished the day going 19-32 for 199 yards and a touchdown pass.

The Steelers played solid defense against the Giants, but were unable to get enough pressure on Manning.  The Steelers’ offense started the day very well as Mewelde Moore rushed for a 32-yard touchdown.  Moore rushed 14 times for 84 yards and a touchdown on Sunday.  Ben Roethlisberger did not appear to be in rhythm throughout the day, although he threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Nate Washington.  Roethlisberger’s finished the game going 13-29 for 189 yards, with four interceptions and a touchdown.

Hopefully the Steelers can learn from their mistakes and bounce back quickly from this disappointing loss, because next week they travel to D.C to face the 6-2 Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.

  1. The Steelers' offense was plagued not just by poor play, but by penalties that could very well have been the difference in the game.  A 53-yard TD toss from Roethlisberger to Washington was wiped out by a flag, and that touchdown would have meant a tie score at the end of regulation instead of a Giants win.  I have to wonder where Ben's head was for this game, but that one wasn't his fault.  Overall, Moore's the only one on the offense I wouldn't chide if given the chance to speak my mind to them about this game.  I'm counting on Coach Tomlin to put it to them and have them get their heads right for Washington.
