Week 2: Steelers vs. Browns Preview

Week 2 of the NFL season is upon us, as the Steelers prepare to head to Ohio to face their division rival, the Cleveland Browns, on Sunday Night Football.  When the Steelers play the Browns, the games are always very physical and played with high emotion, and with the game being nationally televised on NBC, it will add an extra feeling of excitement.

The Steelers are entering this game after a strong showing last week, defeating the Texans 38-17.  The Browns are coming in to Week 2 0-1, after losing against the Dallas Cowboys last week 28-10.  The Steelers have won the last nine meetings with the Browns and 15 out of the last 16 meetings overall.

Players to watch this week are the two quarterbacks from both teams, Ben Roethlisberger and Derek Anderson.  Roethlisberger had 147.0 passer rating in Week 1, throwing for 137 yards and two touchdowns.  It will be interesting to see if Roethlisberger will be able to keep up that success this week against the secondary of the Cleveland Browns.  Roethlisberger has never lost to the Browns as he is 7-0 in his career.  Derek Anderson enters this game with a 74.0 passer rating as he threw for 114 yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys.  Many believe that Derek Anderson will have to show a lot more this season if he hopes to be the franchise quarterback and take the Cleveland Browns to the next level, that starts with beating the 2007 AFC North Champion Steelers on Sunday night.

Prediction:  I see Pittsburgh’s winning streak against the Browns will grow to ten after Sunday night.  Pittsburgh’s ground game will be too much for Cleveland’s front four, Steelers win 24-14.

  1. I honestly don't think Romeo Crennel's boys can hold it together this season.  It wasn't just the strength of the Cowboys that earned the Brownies their loss last week; Cleveland just doesn't look like a team right now.  Yeah, there are individual bright spots, like Derek Anderson and Braylon Edwards, but even if the Browns' offense were firing on all cylinders, their defense isn't doing much to hold up the other end.  Look for Roethlisberger to pick at the corners and continue his rock-solid medium-range attack in the air, and definitely expect the continuation of the grinding rushing attack.  With the Steelers' improved offensive line, Willie Parker stands to grab his next 100-yard game easy here.
