The Steelers dominated this game more than the score would indicate. It started off with a pick-6 by Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis, who seems to have the Steelers number, having picked 4 against the Steelers in their past few meetings. There was some lack of discipline by the Steelers with 10 Penalties for 129 yards, including a Pass Interference by CB Ike Taylor and several taunting penalties. Great 48 yard catch from Nate Washington, but he was also flagged for taunting the Jaguars' bench. The Defense played great, allowing 213 yards total, with 2 sacks from Lamarr Woodley (photo below) and 1 from James Harrison.
Here's an article by Steeler's beat writer Ed Bouchette from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He talks about the Steelers blitzing defense, and how they haven't really blitzed that much this season. An excerpt:
The Steelers' defense has 15 sacks through four games, on pace for 60, which would shred their record of 55.They set the team record in 1994 (and tied it in 2001) when the Blitzburgh defense was born. No one can label this defense Blitzburgh II, though, at least not yet because they're sacking quarterbacks without using many of their exotic blitzes.
"Actually, we haven't called many blitzes," linebacker James Harrison said. "We haven't really called too many of our complicated zig-zag blitzes that we do. We haven't shown many."
Harrison is at it again. He led the Steelers with 8.5 sacks in his first season as their starting right outside linebacker in 2007, when he made the Pro Bowl. He's second in the NFL now with 5.5 sacks, one-half a sack behind leader John Abraham of Atlanta.
Linebacker LaMarr Woodley, starting on the left outside for the first time, has 3.5 sacks (tied for ninth in the league) and believes Harrison can win the NFL sack title."Of course, and I can be right behind him because the more he gets the more he puts pressure on me," Woodley said. "Yeah, there's a little competition between us. Right now, he has me beat. I tell him before every game I'm going to close the gap this week, and he tells me he's going to expand the gap and he did that Monday night."
College Football:
(12) Florida 38 Arkansas 7Tim Tebow and the 12th-ranked Gators rebounded from their surprising loss to Mississippi, methodically holding off Arkansas for three quarters Saturday before pulling away for a 38-7 win. Tebow threw for two touchdowns, and his early conversion helped Florida move ahead to stay.
''You're dealing with 18-to-22 year-olds,'' said Tebow, who threw for 217 yards. ''Everything's based on momentum, confidence and that swagger that people talk about.''
The Gators (4-1, 2-1) host LSU next weekend in a huge Southeastern Conference matchup.
New Mexico Lobos 24 Wyoming Cowboys 0
The Lobos applied a serious--if ugly- butt kicking upon the rival Cowboys. Lobo CB Frankie Soloman had a 13 yard pick 6 to start the game. James Wright and Brad Guner each added 1 yard TD runs. Next up is the mightly BYU Cougars!
