Week 2 - Steelers 10 Browns 6

Steelers 10 Browns 6

This Sunday Night game wasn't very exciting, but the Steelers won their 10th straight game against the Browns. This is the longest such streak in the league. The gusty winds and rain from Hurricane Ike made for a low scoring game. (Ike also postponed the Houston/Baltimore game as Houston got slammed hard).

Here's a photo of Steeler's CB Ike Taylor addressing the famous Dawg Pound at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Check out the most-famous Dawg Pound season-ticket holder: John Big Dawg Thompson, the "Canine-in-Chief."

Hines Ward caught the lone TD in the game and Willie Parker had his career 23rd 100 yard game. The TV announcers reported that Ben Rothlisberger supposedly played with a separated shoulder.

"They know more than I did," said Steeler's coach Mike Tomlin. "That's good television, I guess. He's hurting pretty bad, but he's a tough character. Is he 100 percent? No. But no one plays as hard as he does without getting banged up."

The defense play a solid game allowing only 210 yards, with 2 sacks by Aaron Smith and 2 INTs.

“We are inches away from beating these guys,” Browns tight end Kellen Winslow said. “Big Ben just comes up with something every time. They are the best defense in the NFL. They are great, not good. We just want to win the division and to do that, we have to beat those guys.”

This is high praise from K2. I agree with him. Troy is playing fantastic. He made a crazy leaping dive over the line of scrimmage during one blitz, made a TD-saving interception and was everywhere--as usual.

College Football:

New Mexico Lobos 36 Arizona Wildcats 28

Lobos win! I-25 was packed as 32,000 Lobo fans packed University Stadium to watch Rodney Ferguson run for 158 yards and two touchdowns. The defense forced 5 turnovers. This series dates back to 1908.

In this photo by Greg Sorber, Lobo kicker and Roswell, NM native James Aho kicks his school-record tying 5th field goal. A true freshman, Aho only tried out for the team this last spring. After the game, he played it cool.

"Oh man, I don't want this," said Aho as he saw a throng of New Mexico reporters approaching. "I don't watch the game much, I just stay back in my own place, just try to stay focused on what I have to do.

In SEC news, the Florida Gators were idle this week, but have a big game against Tennessee next week.

Albuquerque Boy's U12 Soccer:

The Alameda Artillery traveled to the lovely village of Corrales, NM to play against the Rio Rancho Rebellion. Our team played very well, with some excellent passing and strikes and won the game 10-1. Great job team.

Artilllery Scorers:
Hector 4
Joseph - 3
Teddy - 1
Jacob - 1
Fernando - 1
