This can't be good.
The Rooney brothers are in the middle of a family dispute regarding the financial future of the franchise.
Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu has not practiced because of a sore hamstring.
Left guard Chris Kemoeatu, the heir apparent to Alan Faneca (now with the Jets), was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list because of a biceps injury.
Pro Bowl nose guard Casey Hampton, out of shape and overweight, was unable to finish the running drills on the first day and Coach Mike Tomlin also placed him on the PUP list along with Polamalu and Kemoeatu.
Punter Daniel Sepulveda was lost for the season because of a torn ACL.
No. 1 tailback Willie Parker, starting defensive end Aaron Smith and starting free safety Ryan Clark are all coming back from season-ending injuries.
And, oh by the way, the Steelers have the toughest schedule in the NFL this season.
The Steelers have so many question marks entering Tomlin's second season as head coach that training camp is looking at lot more like Camp Riddler.
All these problems the Steelers are having is a sign of things to come this season. The 2008 Steelers season will not be easy. In fact, it will probably be downright taxing.
The schedule features games against New England, San Diego, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Dallas, Philadelphia and defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
An 8-8 record might be considered a success.
But this season is going to be the foundation for bigger and better things in 2009. It will be Tomlin's third year. Young players like Lawrence Timmons, Lamar Woodley, Rashard Mendenhall and Limas Sweed will have one year under their belts. And Ben Roethlisberger will be pushing Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as the top quarterback in the league.
First, the Steelers must survive 2008.
